Airborne Pumpkins

Well, my trip was cancelled. Both the event and the flights. Good thing I ended up NOT going up Sunday. Now what I'm most looking forward to are airborne pumpkins! NPR (my local station anyway) was warning people about taking in Halloween decorations before the Frankenstorm's full force hit, particularly pumpkins, because "they could become airborne." I cannot get the image of flying pumpkins out of my head and I really really want to see one!

  1. It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a....pumpkin? :)

    Stay safe!

  2. Right now it's mostly just raining. Buckets and buckets. It's breezy, too, but we're not expecting the serious wind stuff until later into this evening. I'm thinking about putting a pumpkin on my porch and setting a video camera in the window. Then again, if I did and if it did go airborne, it would probably just smash into my neighbors' window. I would actually enjoy this, but I guess I don't really hate them quite that much ...

I love it when things work out!

If you see any airborne pumpkins, it is your duty as an American citizen to film it and post it on YouTube.

  4. Goddamn! I swear I try to keep the irrational, superstitious part of my brain in check, and then some weird shit happens that makes my rational brain duck and cover. Not an hour after I typed that last comment, one of my house's 100-year old, crappy original windows that's had a hairline crack for a few months now (yeah, yeah, we've been meaning to replace the glass) decided it doesn't like hurricanes. A good third of the pane, right along the cracked part, just up and fell out in a brisker gust.

I'm waiting on the repair guy now, pleasantly surprised he's actually doing business today. Who'd have thought?

Like I said ... Goddamn! If you're gonna have to replace a broken window, it would be way better if you could blame it on an airborne pumpkin.

  5. If you do put a pumpkin out, could you please carve a witch on a broom on it? I would be most amused if someone could film a pumpkin with a flying witch on it flying through the air.

  6. That would be totally killer! Not sure I can make THAT happen, but I am looking optimistically across the street at not 1, not 2, not 3 ... but 5 -- yes FIVE! -- nice big specimens sitting on somebody's front steps. They are pretty big, though, like maybe -- I'm just guessing -- 50 pounders. It's going to have to get windier than it is now for those suckers to go airborne,
