Adding "jeezusfuck" to my lexicon now.

After being in academia, working in a department, and talking to other people, I think it's a true miracle that anything gets accomplished ever in a workplace. For real.

About the Authors

recent Ph.D. started graduate school as an idealist with lofty goals for research and teaching. She has since become a pragmatist, no longer believing — given the bleak job market and the structural problems with higher education causing it — that she could have a future in the academy. "All the world's a stage," said the Bard, but recent Ph.D. doesn't know what role she is to play in the next act. Her posts reflect her adventures trying to figure it out.

LuckyZzz is a deceased cat whom recent Ph.D. was privileged to know. He inspired her to appreciate the value of friends, good food, potent catnip, and full days of napping. He occasionally visits to share his unique perspective.
