Godammit!

I was hoping to make it through an entire conference for once without anyone mentioning Foucault. But godammit, somebody had to go and do it yesterday! One more day to go ...

No fucking Lacan and only one mention of Foucault. Thank Dog! I don't know which I hate more, Lacan or Foucault. Actually, probably Lacan -- in which case, all in all, not a bad show!

One of the many things I love about not being an academic anymore is the utter absence of Foucault from my life. Bliss!

recent Ph.D. started graduate school as an idealist with lofty goals for research and teaching. She has since become a pragmatist, no longer believing — given the bleak job market and the structural problems with higher education causing it — that she could have a future in the academy.
